For the second consecutive season, Bowling Green State University senior hockey forward Nathan Burke has been named to the 2022-23 Academic All-America At-Large Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA).

Burke was named to the first team this year after earning third team at the conclusion of the 2021-22 campaign.

Burke is just the third player in program history to be named multiple times with the Falcons, joining Tim Hack and Alan Leggett.

Like Burke, Hack was named third team in 1982-83 before being named to the first team the following season in 1983-84. Leggett was named first team in both 1987-88 and 1988-89, the only two-time first team recipient in program history.

“We are so proud of Nathan for being named an Academic All-American for the second consecutive year,” said coach Ty Eigner.

“What he was able to accomplish in his time with the Falcons was really impressive. Coming in as a transfer, we only had him for two years and in that time he had a tremendous impact on our program both on the ice and in the classroom.”

In addition to his academic accolades, Burke was a second-team All-CCHA selection this year, scoring 17 regular season goals to rank third in the league.

Competing in 36 games, he led the Falcons and ranked second in the CCHA with seven power play tallies. He was named CCHA Forward of the Week once and is also a two-time CCHA Scholar-Athlete.

At the conclusion of the season, Burke signed a professional contract with the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL, playing four games for Orlando with two assists. He also appeared in 10 games for the San Jose Barracuda in the AHL, scoring three goals in addition to two assists.

Burke is a native of Scottsdale, Ariz. He graduated with his MBA and maintained a 3.94 GPA. Last season, Burke became the first Falcon to be named Academic All-America since 2004. This season, he became the first Falcon to be named in consecutive seasons since 1989.
