A two-vehicle crash downed an electric pole, causing a power outage to the west side of the city Friday.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital.

At 5:03 p.m. John McKenzie, 69, Weston, was eastbound on West Wooster Street driving a 2004 Dodge Caravan.

Donald Gerdeman, 27, North Baltimore, was southbound on Mitchell Road approaching the Wooster Street intersection.

Gerdeman failed to stop for the stop sign and was struck by McKenzie after entering the intersection, according to a Bowling Green Police Division report.

This caused Gerdeman’s 2018 Dodge Ram to roll over and strike a stop sign and utility pole. A spare tire that was unsecured in the truck bed flew out and struck another vehicle down the road.

The crash caused a power outage that lasted several hours.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and the drivers were transported to the hospital by BG EMS, both with possible injury.

Gerdeman said that he was looking at his GPS around the time of the accident, according to the crash report.

He was cited for failure to yield the right of way and unsecured loads.
