A North Baltimore man who pleaded guilty three years ago for using racial slurs during an assault at the Waffle House was back in court.

Jacob Dick, 26, appeared June 13 in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger.

A warrant for his arrest was issued May 25 after he allegedly violated community control sanctions after he was charged with domestic violence and aggravated menacing in Bowling Green Municipal Court.

Dick was arrested May 26 and a petition to revoke community control was filed June 1.

Defense attorney Alex Smith asked for an own recognizance bond, stating his client historically had been a good person while on probation.

“I have no reason to believe he will not appear in court,” Smith said.

Dick has a $10,000 bond through municipal court and once posted, will stay on the ankle GPS monitor, Smith said.

The alleged victim addressed the court.

“I do believe in a way he believes he’s bullet proof,” she said.

He needs help, she added.

Both Dick and the alleged victim have protection orders against each other.

Reger imposed an own recognizance bond with the stipulation Dick comply with orders set in municipal court, which include Dick will stay with his brother, and be placed on a GPS monitor with an exclusion zone of 3 miles from the alleged victim’s address.

As of Wednesday, Dick was no longer listed as an inmate.

Dick pleaded guilty in to charges of felonious assault and ethnic intimidation, both felonies, for the March 31, 2019, assault that happened at Waffle House on East Wooster Street.

He was sentenced in March 2020 to 180 days in jail and was placed on community control for five years. He was granted early release from jail on Aug. 3, 2020.

The next hearing was scheduled for Aug. 8.
