A Perrysburg man has been placed on community control after threatening an ex-girlfriend.

Logan Harrington, 20, appeared Tuesday in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger.

Harrington was indicted in March for abduction, a third-degree felony, and aggravated menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor.

In January, a woman went to the sheriff’s office to file a report. She said that after she asked Harrington for a ride home, he got upset, started driving at a high rate of speed and started talking about flipping the truck and killing them both. When another friend approached the stopped vehicle, Harrington pointed a gun at her and grabbed her wrist to prevent her from exiting the vehicle.

The two previously had been in a relationship, it was announced in court.

The abduction charge was dismissed after numerous discussions with the victim, said Wood County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Christopher Anderson.

No impact statement was received, he said.

“She was in agreement with the resolution,” Anderson said

Harrington was a young man in love with someone and didn’t handle the breakup well, said defense attorney Lorin Zaner.

His client is going to be a junior at the University of Toledo this fall and is in ROTC, he said.

Harringtonn has lost his job, lost employment opportunities, lost some friends and has sought counseling, Zaner said.

“He’s hoping to be a productive member of society and wants to get into the military after college,” Zaner said.

Harrington said his anger got him into this situation and assured the court “this does not show the type of person I am.”

He said through counseling he is learning ways to better communicate his feelings.

Reger imposed 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. Both the jail time and the fine were suspended.

He placed Harrington on two years of community control, with the stipulation he seek mental and anger management counseling and have no contact with the victim.
