A Cygnet man has taken a plea offer after being accused of a sex crime.
Nicholas Gerkens, 45, appeared Tuesday in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger.
Gerkens was indicted in December for gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony.
On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to the amended charge of sexual imposition, a third-degree misdemeanor.
Gerkens will have to register as a Tier I sex offender, which will require him to register annually for 15 years.
According to Wood County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Pamela Gross, in July 2022 at a home in Cygnet, he touched a female in an offensive manner.
She reported this to the police a few months later, Gross said.
According to the indictment, the victim was 16 years old at the time of the offense.
Reger said he could impose a jail sentence of up to 60 days plus five years of community control sanctions.
Sentencing was set for July 11.
