HOLLAND — Delaney Maynard and Adyson Bowe both hit fifth inning home runs to lead Eastwood softball to a 3-1 victory over Genoa in a Division III district semifinal at the Springfield High School baseball and softball complex Wednesday.

The Ashland University-bound Maynard got her bat on an outside pitch for her homer, which allowed her to tie Eastwood’s all-time single season record four round-trippers (10) previously set by Carleigh Coffield in 2018.

Eastwood, 24-3, advances to take on Tinora this Saturday (1 p.m.) at the same venue in the district final and for the right to advance to the regional tournament. The Eagles have already clinched a share of the Northern Buckeye Conference title.

Eastwood scored all three runs in the fifth inning while the Comets put up their lone run in the top of the seventh on a Maddie Bronowski home run.

Eastwood pitcher Cassi Kieper got the win, striking out 11, walking one, allowing three hits and one run. Kieper threw 97 pitches, including 64 strikes, while facing 26 batters.

Also getting base hits for the Eagles were Jessyca Smith, Kieper, and Grace Kingery. Kieper drove in Eastwood’s other run.

Genoa pitcher Kaylin Shields, who will play at Wheeling University, struck out 12, walked four, allowed five hits and two earned runs while throwing 113 pitches, including 74 strikes and facing 28 batters.

Shields and Emerson Bickel also had base hits for the Comets.
