Fish fry Friday in G. Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS — The American Legion Post 232 will have its monthly fish fry on Friday from 5-7 p.m. or sold out. Dine in or carry out. Desserts and drinks will be available. The cost is $15.

Volunteers, Memorial Day parade units needed

The Bowling Green Memorial Day Observance Committee is seeking community units to march in the Memorial Day Parade at 10 a.m. on May 29.

Veteran groups, scouting groups and other groups offering patriot tribute to veterans may participate. The committee is also looking for convertibles.

The parade forms at the post office at 9:30 a.m., steps off at 10 a.m. and concludes with a ceremony at Oak Grove Cemetery.

The committee is seeking volunteers to decorate veterans’ graves in Memory Gardens Cemetery and Oak Grove Cemetery on Saturday. Flags will be placed on veterans’ graves starting with Memory Gardens at 10 a.m. and concluding with Oak Grove Cemetery at 1 p.m.

Public dinner in Pemberville

PEMBERVILLE — The Pemberville United Methodist Church curbside carryout public dinner will be Saturday at 205 Perry St. from 4 p.m. until sold out.

The meal is ham loaf or meat loaf, baked potato, corn, roll and homemade desserts. The donation is $10.

The carryout curbside pickup is on Maple Street.

Teens can ‘volunteen’ during summer reading program

Youth ages 11 and older are encouraged to sign up to be a volunteen at the Wood County District Public Library for the Summer Reading Program: All Together Now.

Volunteens assist the library by registering readers, helping with programs, and organizing materials. Schedules are flexible.

The Children’s Place is offering volunteen training on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 p.m.

Yappy Hour raises funds for BG dog park

A fenced play space will be the feature at the first “Yappy Hour” sponsored by the Citizens for BG Dog Parks.

Dog owners and their canine friends are invited to enjoy the large off-leash area at Arlyn’s Good Beer on Saturday from 1 p.m. to sunset. In case of rain, the event will be May 27.

Arlyn’s, 520 Hankey Ave., will donate 16% of all beer sales on the day of the event in support of the efforts to establish a dog park. Donations will also be accepted.

Kevin’s Kajunette food truck will be there from 4-8 p.m. Musical entertainment starting at 7 p.m. will be provided by the Barn Cats Trio.

Dogs may come in costume or dress up with available props to pose for a Pawtograph.

Way library hosts Mickey and Minnie Matinee

PERRYSBURG — Way Public Library will hold a free celebration of Disney’s Mickey and Minnie Mouse on Saturday.

There will be games, crafts and snacks in honor of these famous mice starting at 1 p.m., followed by a showing of classic Mickey and Minnie shorts at 1:30 pm. Children of all ages are welcome.

Speaker to give talk on Toledo Metroparks

Trish Hausknecht of Metroparks Toledo will give an illustrated talk about the expanding park system on Tuesday at a meeting of the Bowling Green Exchange Club.

Open to the public, a buffet lunch at noon will precede the talk at the Bowling Green Country Club. The cost is $13.

Currently marketing and event manager, Hausknecht previously was manager of volunteer services, boosting the number of park volunteers to 5,000.

Phase 2 of Glass City Metropark in East Toledo, including the Market Hall, a restaurant, the Ribbon skating trail and children’s play areas, will open June 9-11.
