Fallen heroes to be honored in Perrysburg

PERRYSBURG — The Legionnaires of Perrysburg Post No. 28, American Legion Department of Ohio, will honor America’s fallen heroes by placing American flags at the gravesites of service members buried in the city.

The placement of American flags will take place on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery located at 620 W. Indiana Ave., and on May 27 at 9 a.m. at Saint Rose Cemetery located across from Woodlands Park on Ohio 795.

Additionally, a Memorial Day parade and service will be held on May 29 at 10 a.m. Parade participants will gather at the corner of Louisiana Avenue and Fifth Street starting at 9 a.m.

The parade will head north on Louisiana Avenue to West Front Street, south on Walnut Street, and then west on Indiana Avenue. The parade will stop at Hood Park for the placing of a wreath at the monument of those killed in service and then end at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery for a memorial service.

The parade is being organized by Rick Ruffner who can be contacted at 419-810-3877. Ruffner is also organizing activities for kids in the Commodore Schoolyard, 140 E. Indiana Ave., with inflatables from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

The Perrysburg American Legion is hosting the Memorial Day graveside ceremony of fallen comrades at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery after the parade. It will start at 11:30 a.m. The legion is seeking names of honorably discharged veterans who have passed since Memorial Day 2022 so they can be included in the reading of names.
