In preparation for the Division II boys tennis tournament which began Thursday at Bryan, Rossford tennis lost Monday to Toledo Central Catholic, 3-2, and to Wauseon, 4-1, on Tuesday.

In first singles against the Irish, Rossford senior Justin Hire defeated Donovan Green, 6-2, 6-2, and in second singles Rossford senior Zach Boggs defeated Central’s Cody Schuberg, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 12-10 (third set tiebreak).

In the team loss to Wauseon, Rossford’s only winner was Hire at first singles, defeating Carson Wenger, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.

In second singles, Wauseon’s Gavin Van Dielen defeated Boggs 6-1, 6-0, and at third singles the Indians’ Levi Short defeated DeShetler, 6-1, 6-2.

At first doubles, Wauseon’s Aiden Leininger and Clay Soltis defeated Madden and Brown, 6-1, 6-2, and at second doubles, Zeb Siefker and Zeph Siefker defeated Misko and Bieganowski, 6-1, 6-0.

Next year, Rossford and Fostoria, the only Northern Buckeye Conference teams currently sanctioning varsity tennis, will be joined by Maumee and Oak Harbor, bringing to four the number of schools with tennis programs.

By charter, the NBC requires five schools to sanction a league championship, so coaches are interested in seeing whether one of the other four schools is interested in beginning a tennis program.
