OREGON — Visiting Bowling Green boys tennis swept Clay, 5-0, on Wednesday to close the regular season at 10-7 in dual matches.

In first singles, Aaron Hershberger defeated Ayden Nowicki, 6-0, 6-1, in second singles Zack Mangan defeated Xavier Lockhart 6-0, 6-0 and in third singles, Caleb Goff defeated Sam Kennedy, 6-0, 6-0.

In first doubles, Mathias Drumm and Theodore Bock defeated Blake Dayton and Caden Conley, 6-0, 6-1, and in second doubles, Jonas Kendrick and Robby Seiffert defeated Isaiah Kinn and Zach Conley, 6-2, 6-4.

On Bowling Green State University’s Keefe Courts on Tuesday, the Bobcats fell to Bryan, 3-2, in another non-league match. The entire team match hinged on the second doubles outcome.

Bryan tandem Micah McCashen and Austin DeWitt defeated Kendrick and Seiffert, but not without a fight, 6-4, 7-6 (3).

“Kendrick and Seiffert were ahead in both sets and were not able to finish either set,” BG coach Andy Drumm said. “They were up 4-1 in the first set and gave up six straight games to lose the set.

“Kendrick and Seiffert were up 5-4 in the second set with a set point. They lost that game but were able to force a tie-break,” coach Drumm continued.

“In the tie-break McCashen and DeWitt were able to start hot with a great return and two great serves.

“They kept the momentum going and went ahead 6-1. Kendrick and Seiffert were able to get a couple of points before losing on a great volley by McCashen.”

BG’s Paul Guo won at third singles, defeating Sam Kennedy, 6-0, 6-0, and Drumm and Bock won at first doubles, defeating Eli Schlade and Beckett Stark, 6-1, 6-2.

Hershberger fell at first singles to London Bassett, 6-0, 6-2, and Mangan fell at second singles to Caleb McCashen, 6-1, 6-0.

Division I sectional play begins on Thursday, May 11 at the University of Findlay tennis courts.
