Dr. Lewis Page Fulcher Jr., 80, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away on May 9, 2023. He was born on March 30, 1943 in Amherst, VA to the late Lewis Page and Francis (Drummond) Fulcher. He married Mary Jane O’Hara on December 21, 1968 and she survives him.

Lewis is also survived by his children: Lewis (Nancy) Fulcher III of Ann Arbor, MI; Shelly (Caryl) Murphy of Kettering, OH; and Brian Fulcher of Columbus, OH; grandchildren: Courtney, CJ, Nicole, Lena, Lucas, Anna, Silas, Leyton; and great-grandson, Jacob; and a brother Hugh Fulcher.

Lewis was a physics professor at Bowling Green State University for 49 years and was awarded a life-time achievement award in 2019. He began his studies at Virginia Tech University earning his Bachelors in Science in Physics. Lewis received his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in 1969, was a postdoctoral fellow at the Goethe Universität in Frankfurt and at the University of Maryland before joining the BGSU faculty in 1973. He was promoted to full professor in 1988. He first established his international reputation in the field of quantum physics. He again made a significant impact, bringing his skills and knowledge in physics to the investigation of how sound is produced by the vocal folds. Lewis was a longtime member of St. Thomas More. He often would sing “The Gambler” at various social settings. He was the most fun person you ever met; loved telling stories, wine, friends and family.

Visitation for Lewis will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023 form 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Deck – Hanneman Funeral Home, 1460 W. Wooster Street, Bowling Green, OH. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11:30 am at St. Thomas More 425 Thurstin St, Bowling Green, OH 43402. Burial will immediately follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
