Bowling Green City Schools’ selection for superintendent has dwindled to one.

Bruce Otley was hired Monday as the new superintendent at Liberty-Benton.

Otley, a 1990 graduate of Bowling Green High School, was one of three finalists for the post of superintendent for the Bowling Green school district.

He and finalist Kim Brueck, director of human resources and student services for Green Local Schools, and Ted Haselman, superintendent at Pike-Delta-York Local Schools, introduced themselves at a community forum last month.

Brueck posted on Facebook six days ago, “The BOE has decided to go in a different direction. I wish the new super the very best. I hope whoever the Board chooses will be successful.”

She responded to a request for verification Tuesday and said she was contacted “by telephone at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3 to tell me that the Board had decided to continue the superintendent search without me.”

Brueck, who is a 1986 BGHS graduate, has been the director of human resources with Green Local Schools in Wayne County for nearly 10 years.

Otley has been with Liberty-Benton for 17 years, first as a middle school principal and most recently as director of operations.

BGSC board President Ryan Myers said Tuesday afternoon the board will announce the new superintendent at tomorrow’s special meeting.

The school board will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the administration office.
