PERRYSBURG — A Perrysburg woman was taken to the hospital after being knocked down by a moving car.

On Friday at 1:20 p.m., Perrysburg police responded to the 1500 block of Ridge Cross.

According to the crash report, James Mease, 85, was backing his 2016 Honda Accord out of his garage to pick up his wife, Dorothy, in the driveway of their residence. As Dorothy opened the car door and began to position herself to get in, Mease said he couldn’t find the brake pedal and the car began moving backward. Dorothy was knocked to the ground.

The car continued across the street, struck a mailbox and then a tree before coming to rest, according to the report.

James said he couldn’t feel the brake pedal due to having a back issue.

Dorothy, 83, was taken by Perrysburg medics to Mercy Health-St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo with suspected serious injuries.

James was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control.
