An Arizona man accused of removing guns valued at $10,000 from a Bowling Green home will remain in jail.

David McKee, 54, Flagstaff, was transported from the jail Tuesday to the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger.

His trial, scheduled to start June 7, was confirmed.

Between March 2-4, McKee allegedly broke into an unoccupied Bowling Green home and took 16 firearms that had an estimated value of $10,000.

He was indicted in March for breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony, and grand theft when the property is a firearm or dangerous ordinance, a third-degree felony.

Defense attorney Sara Roller said her client has been receiving mental health treatment in Arizona for the past 3.5 years, and he is unable to work due to a traumatic brain injury.

She said if he was released from jail, he would drive home and fly back for the trial.

She said McKee’s vehicle had been seized by police and it had most of his possessions in it, including his wallet.

Wood County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Christopher Anderson said McKee has no place to stay in Bowling Green, and he is a flight risk.

Reger denied the request to change McKee’s bond, which previously had been set at $25,000.

Bowling Green police responded to a home on March 4 on a report of a theft. Several guns were missing from the home. The glass front of the cabinet where the guns had been stored was broken, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

A further check of the home showed where entry may have been made into the home by prying a door open.

The home owner provided names and when one person was contacted, he told police McKee had brought several guns to his house on Friday, according to the report.

Sixteen firearms and two knives were identified and recovered. The list included BB guns, a Colt, a Smith & Wesson, a Browning, a Winchester, a Remington and several shotguns.

The value of the firearms was estimated at $10,000, according to the report.

Also allegedly removed from the home were several American flags, older war relic belt buckles and Boy Scout memorabilia.
