The shooter in Monday’s El Zarape incident, who was eventually found dead in his apartment, has been identified.

A Bowling Green Police Division press release identified the man as Antonio Lopez, 66, of Bowling Green.

According to the press release, police responded Monday at approximately 9:37 a.m. to the report of a shooting that occurred inside El Zarape, 1616 E. Wooster St.

The victim, a 26-year-old man from Bowling Green, sustained non-life-threatening injuries that were a result of a physical altercation with Lopez. The physical altercation occurred after Lopez produced a handgun and attempted to shoot the man, according to the press release.

The two men were co-workers, according to BGPD Lt. Adam Skaff.

After the altercation, Lopez fled the scene, south and then west to an apartment complex.

Skaff said that two shots were fired in the parking lot, but neither struck the man.

The men then fought and that’s when the victim sustained his injuries, Skaff said. The victim was taken to Wood County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Bowling Green police, with the help of the Wood County Special Response Team, executed a search warrant of Lopez’s apartment in the 1500 block of Clough Street around 1:30 p.m.

Lopez was found dead inside the apartment from an apparent gunshot wound.

This case remains under investigation.

No additional suspects are being sought at this time, the press release said.

There were social media posts of an active shooter at El Zarape, 1616 E. Wooster St., late Monday morning.

A person who answered the phone at El Zarape at 11:25 a.m. Monday said “we’re all safe.” She wouldn’t give her identity or anymore information.

The restaurant posted on social media that it would be closed on Monday due to the morning incident. It is expected to reopen today.
