BATH TOWNSHIP — A Wednesday accident involving a semi-trailer caused a severe traffic disruption on Interstate 75 that lasted for about three hours, according to emergency personnel.

According to the Bath Township Fire Department, the department was dispatched to Interstate 75 near mile marker 126 to respond to a multi-semi, multi-vehicle accident in the northbound lane. The initial call indicated that one semi-trailer was on fire, but an individual at the scene with a fire extinguisher was able to put the fire out before first responders arrived, according to the fire department.

When responders arrived at the scene, they found that the accident involved three semi-trailers as well as an SUV and a minivan. The SUV suffered sufficient damage that it had to be towed from the scene while the minivan suffered minor damage and was able to be driven away from the scene, according to the fire department.

Gasoline was found to be leaking from tanks on two of the semi-trailers, but fire crews as well as personnel from the Allen County Emergency Management Agency were able to mitigate the leaks, keeping the leaked fuel mostly on the roadway with a small amount getting into the ditch.

Along with mutual aid from the Lima Fire Department, which sent two ambulances to the scene at 10:57 a.m., Bath Township responders transported two individuals from the scene to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the fire department.

Personnel from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Transportation were also at the scene to assist. Northbound traffic remained at a standstill on the roadway until about 1:08 p.m., with the lanes fully reopened and the first responders finished at the scene at 1:51 p.m., according to the fire department.
