A man who allegedly taped a bar code scanner to his wrist has been cited for theft.

Bowling Green police were called to Walmart Wednesday around 4 p.m. for a shoplifter in custody.

Loss prevention showed the officer a video of the suspect, identified as Catarino Hernandez Jr., 29, Toledo, scanning in a self-scan aisle with what was believed to be a bar code, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

Hernandez was confronted as he gathered his purchases, which totaled $17.92, according to the receipt.

The items in his bag reportedly totaled $102.82.
