Lake baseball gets shoot-out wins over Clyde, Otsego

MILLBURY — Lake baseball exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on its way to an 11-7 non-league victory over Clyde Saturday.

N Wagner was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Flyers, Connor Eck was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Gavin Kohlhofer was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Jay Blazevich, Drew Tajblik, and Myles Lowe had base hits for the Flyers. Kohlhofer had two stolen bases and Tajblik and Blazevich had one apiece.

Brandon Phillips started on the mound for Lake, pitching three innings, striking out one, walking six, and allowing three hits and three earned runs, including a home run to Dawson Kinsey.

Blazevich got the win, pitching 2.2 innings in relief, striking out four, walking two, allowing three hits and four earned runs. Tajblik closed in the sixth, not allowing a hit or run.

Kinsey, who had two RBIs, and Blake Hershey were 2-for-4 for Clyde and Kameron Shortridge and Caden Bumb had base hits. Bumb had a sacrifice bunt and Evan Criswell was hit by a pitch.

Blake Gerstenberger pitched two innings for the Fliers, Kinsey pitched 2.2 innings in relief and Drake Guhn pitched the final 1.1 innings, combining to strike out four, walk six, allowing nine hits and six earned runs.

On Friday in Northern Buckeye Conference action, Lake and Otsego combined to score 15 runs in the seventh inning as the Flyers walked off with a 12-11 victory.

The game saw 30 hits, including 19 by Lake and 11 by Otsego and six errors, including four by the Flyers and two by the Knights

Lake took a 4-0 lead after three innings, but Otsego scored four in the top of the fourth and then seven in the top of the seventh to take an 11-4 lead, but Lake came back with eight runs in the bottom of the seventh, scoring the winning run with two outs.

Kohlhofer was 5-for-5 with three RBIs, Tajblik was 4-for-4 with a double and triple, Lowe was 3-for-4 with a double, Eck was 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs, and Matt Perry was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Caleb Tobias, Jack Sobzack, and Wagner had base hits and Sobzack had a sacrifice bunt.

Tobias started on the mound, striking out four, walking three, and allowing seven hits and seven runs, but only three were earned, over 6.1 innings.

Kolton Adkins closed to get the win, striking out two, walking two, and allowing four hits and four earned runs while getting the final two outs in the seventh.

For Otsego, which had five doubles, Bodde Simon was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, Devin Silva was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI, Blake Steele was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Tucker Husberger was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs.

Jaxon Jeremy had a base hit for the Knights and Steele had two stolen bases and Silva had one.

Cohen Feehan started on the mound, and like Tobias, was going along smoothly until the seventh, striking out five, walking none, allowing 15 hits and eight earned runs.

Steele was on the mound when the Flyers got the game-winner, walking one and allowing four hits and four runs, but none were earned.
