A man accused of killing a pregnant woman in the city last month has been arraigned.

Jimmy Cole, 29 appeared via video Thursday in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Joel Kuhlman.

A Wood County grand jury earlier this month indicted Cole for three counts murder, two counts felonious assault and one count tampering with evidence.

Cole was a person of interest after Bowling Green police found 23-year-old Alicia Rosa Confer unresponsive in her apartment in the 300 block of North Main Street around 4:20 p.m. on March 30.

She was pregnant, according to her obituary.

According to court documents, Cole used a knife in the murder.

Kuhlman said the murder charges each have a potential prison sentence of 15 years to life. The assault charges have a potential penalty of two-eight years, he said.

The charges stem from her death and the death of her unborn child. Confer died from several stab wounds, according to court documents.

She was reportedly in a relationship with Cole and it is believed that the child she was carrying was his, according to a joint press release issued by Wood County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Dobson and Bowling Green Police Division Chief Tony Hetrick.

The felonious assault charges allege that Cole caused or attempted to cause physical harm to Confer and her unborn child by means of a deadly weapon.

Cole also is accused of destroying, concealing or removing records, documents or items in order to impair their value as evidence.

With certain offenses merging at sentencing, should Cole be convicted of all charges and all possible sentences run consecutively, he would face a maximum prison sentence of 33 years to life, according to the press release.

Cole was arrested March 31 in Fostoria for an unrelated charge.

Defense attorney Scott Coon, on behalf of Cole, entered pleas of not guilty for all charges.

Dobson said at the time of this offense, Cole was on parole for another incident, and he had tenuous connections with this area.

The address he gave the court was for the scene of the alleged crime and he is not on the lease, Dobson said.

He called Cole “a substantial flight risk.”

Bond was set at $500,000, 100% required. If posted, Cole will be placed on GPS monitoring and have no contact with the victim’s family.

Cole’s next hearing will be May 25.
