Prep Softball Roundup: Royals blank Eastwood, 1-0, in pitchers’ duel

PEMBERVILLE — Elmwood pitcher Madison Milligan pitched a five-hit complete game shutout as the Royals defeated Eastwood, 1-0, in Northern Buckeye Conference action Monday.

Milligan, who will play at Ashland University, struck out eight, walked one and needed 109 pitches, including 72 for strikes, in facing 26 Eastwood batters.

Taking the loss in the pitchers’ duel was Cassie Kieper, who struck out 10, walked none, and gave up five hits and one earned run. Kieper threw 89 pitches, including 79 for strikes in facing 26 batters.

Mariela Garcia scored Elmwood’s lone run on an RBI hit by Kate Keiffer in the top of the fourth inning.

Also getting base hits for Elmwood were Garcia, Abigail Allison, Kynzie Science, and Dakota Rader-King.

For Eastwood, Lilly Escobedo was 2-for-3, Grace Kingery had a double and Mackenzie Hady had a base hit.

Otsego 12, Woodmore 1

TONTOGANY—Otsego softball scored eight runs in the second inning on their way to defeating Woodmore, 12-1, in a Northern Buckeye Conference game Monday.

The Knights only outhit the Wildcats 7-3 but took advantage of four errors and five walks to improve to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the league.

Kianna Dingledine was 2-for-2 with a triple and 2 RBI and Kaylin Euler, Riley Miller, Alexis Etchie, Chesney Kuron and Danelle Brooks had one base hit apiece.

Riley Rowe started in the circle for the Knights, striking out six, walking one and allowing one hit and no runs through three innings.

Brooks struck out four, walked one, and allowed two hits and one run in three innings in a game shortened to five innings because of the mercy rule.

For Woodmore, Kelsey Kaylor was 2-for-3 and Cameran Quisno had a base hit. Quisno took the loss pitching, but only three of the 12 runs scored while she was in the circle were charged to her.

Lake 11, Fostoria 1

MILLBURY — Lake sophomore Kali Bedford struck out seven, walked one, and allowed four hits and one run as Lake defeated Fostoria 11-1 in Northern Buckeye Conference softball Monday.

In six innings, Bedford needed just 71 pitches, 49 for strikes, in facing 22 batters. She was also 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for the Flyers.

Jessie Materni was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, Sarah Patrick was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Alivia King had a double and Diem Isbell, Kylee Pietrzak, and Jade Shinaver had base hits for Lake.

Materni had a sacrifice fly and two stolen bases, Patrick and Isbell had two stolen bases each and Emma Sutter had one stolen base for Lake.

Marisol Bernal took the loss in the circle for Fostoria and Amijah Poole, Bernal, Chelsea Tyson and Bryanna Ferguson had base hits for the Redmen. Ferguson and Poole had stolen bases.

Perrysburg 16, Sylvania Northview 4

SYLVANIA — Perrysburg softball belted out 19 hits on their way to a 16-4 Northern Lakes League victory over Northview Monday.

The Yellow Jackets scored multiple runs in every inning — four in the first, four in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth, and three in the fifth.

Maison Gerrard was 4-for-5 with four RBIs, Alyssa Bradford was 4-for-4 with three RBIs, Hayley Griggs was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Jess Miller was 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs for Perrysburg.

Lexie Vaillant was 2-for-4 with a double, Paige Riney had a triple, Natalie Getchey had a double, and Morgan Hoverman and Ella Leonard had base hits.

Griggs had a sacrifice fly and Hoverman had two stolen bases, and Miller and Yesenia You had one stolen base each.

Gerrard got the complete game victory in the circle, striking out none, walking one, and allowing five hits and three earned in five innings, which is all she needed because the game was shortened due to the mercy rule. She threw 69 pitches, 43 for strikes, and faced 23 batters.

Sydney Eggers took the loss for the Wildcats and Olivia Enright pitched in relief. Eggers had a double at the plate and Sophia McKarus and Kennedy Vicente were both 2-for-2 for the Wildcats.

Anthony Wayne 10, Bowling Green 0

WHITEHOUSE — Anthony Wayne senior pitcher Brooklyn Patchen struck out 10, walked none, and allowed two hits and no runs through 4.1 innings as the Generals defeated Bowling Green, 10-0, in a five-inning mercy-ruled Northern Lakes League softball game Monday.

Patchen, who will pitch for Creighton University next year, needed just 55 pitches, including 43 strikes, facing 15 batters. Kat. Meyers closed for the Generals, pitching two-thirds of an inning and walking one but not allowing a hit or run.

At the plate, Patchen also had a home run and two RBIs, and she scored twice for the nationally ranked Generals.

Sarah Trimpey got both hits off Patchen for the Bobcats. Zoe Ziems pitched for BG, striking out three, walking two, allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs through four innings.
