A Michigan man wanted on a warrant for robbery was arrested and taken to the Wood County jail.

At 2:30 p.m. Friday, Bowling Green police were notified of a camera hit on East Wooster Street at Interstate 75 of a vehicle wanted by the Detroit Police Department.

A check of the Michigan license plate included a note that the subjects in the vehicle were armed, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

The car, a white Nissan Altima, was spotted westbound on East Wooster before it turned north on Thurstin Avenue then east on East Reed Street.

The Nissan went to the dead end and rounded a building, accelerating quickly back out and toward Thurstin Avenue as police blocked the exit.

With the assistance of Bowling Green State University police, William Weems Jr., 24, Port Huron, Michigan, was taken into custody.

A Detroit detective advised BGPD that Weems was a suspect in a robbery in that jurisdiction and they had unsuccessfully pursued the Nissan. He asked BGPD to let him know if they discovered any evidence of the robbery as they conducted an inventory of the vehicle.

BGPD and BGSU officers inventoried the car and found no evidence. Two crack pipes and an unknown substance were found.

Weems was taken to jail to be held until Detroit PD issued a warrant.
