The Bowling Green State University tennis team (6-12 overall, 0-6 MAC) dropped a Friday match to the Buffalo Bulls (18-5, 4-2 MAC) by a score of 5-2.

The match was played on Keefe Courts, the program’s first spring match on the campus courts in nearly four years.

Ioanna Tsadari and Eloise Saraty picked up singles wins for the Falcons, with Tsadari playing at No. 1 and Saraty at No. 2.

Tsadari was efficient in her win over Azra Deniz Comlek, taking both sets by a score of 6-3. Saraty dropped her first set, 6-4, to Pia Schwarz, but rebounded with a 6-4 win of her own in the second set. In the tiebreak set, Saraty outlasted Schwarz for a thrilling 11-9 win.

Tsadari now has six singles wins this spring, with five of those coming at No. 1. During the 2022-23 campaign, she has nine singles victories. The senior has 38 singles wins and 78 combined wins in her career.

Her total of 21 combined wins this year ranks second on the team. Saraty leads the team with 24 combined wins this year, including a team-best 12 singles wins. Eight of those have come during the spring season, ranking second on the team.

For the week of March 27. Bowling Green’s duo of Ioanna Tsadari and Eloise Saraty were named MAC Doubles Team of the Week after winning both of their No. 1 doubles matches. This is the second time the pair has been honored by the conference.

Tsadari and Saraty went 2-0 on the weekend, playing both matches at No. 1. On Friday, the seniors faced a 5-2 deficit against Miami’s pairing of Laura Rico and Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek. They battled back to earn a 7-6 (1) victory, their seventh of the season.

On Sunday, the duo defeated Toledo’s Sanjana Tallamraju and Julia Kuszynski, 6-3. This extended their doubles record to 8-3 this spring, playing all matches at No. 1.

“A great week for our top tandem,” BGSU coach Mike Bonnell said. “Beating two of the best that our conference has to offer is a really good sign for things to come.”

This is the second MAC recognition of the year for the pair and third Doubles Team of the Week honors for the Falcons. The first honor was awarded to Lucy Furness and Hannah Neuman, who earned MAC Doubles Team of the Week on Jan. 26.

Saraty has also earned MAC Singles Player of the Week, while Tsadari was previously named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week. BGSU’s total of five weekly honors matches the most in a single season since 2010, when the team was recognized on six occasions.
