Bowling Green thrower Zaresha Neal has earned Mid-American Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this outdoor season.

The senior placed 10th both of her events at the Texas Relays, tallying a discus mark of 179 feet, one inch (54.58m) and a shot put mark of 53 feet (16.15m).

Both marks rank first in the MAC, third in the Great Lakes Region, and 16th in the NCAA East Qualifying list. Her discus mark is 23rd in the NCAA and her shot put mark ranks 29th nationally.

Zaresha Neal placed 10th in the discus and shot put at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, reaching the MAC’s top mark of the season in both events. Her discus mark of 179-1 is the second-best in school history, trailing her own school record by less than one meter.

It ranks 23rd in the nation and is 4.79 meters better than the MAC’s second-best mark. Her shot put mark of 53 feet (16.15m) is 17th in school history, with the only better marks being recorded by herself and Aliyah Gustafson. It ranks 29th nationally and is more than 2.00m better than the MAC’s second-best mark.

“Zaresha competed well in a stacked field of some of the best in the NCAA, and frankly, the world,” said BGSU throws coach Marcus Myers. “Her performance is highlighting what’s to come in the next few weeks of the outdoor season.”

This is the second time in as many weekends of competition Neal has been honored during the 2023 outdoor season. She has earned recognition five times during the 2023 season, the most in the MAC. In her career, she has seven MAC Field Athlete of the Week honors, with three of them coming during the outdoor season.

Bowling Green will travel to Knoxville for the Tennessee Invite, hosted by the University of Tennessee from April 6-8.

Thursday will feature the hammer throw, which begins at 5 p.m. Friday begins with the heptathlon at 10 a.m., followed by field events at 12 p.m. and track events at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the heptathlon resumes at 10:30 a.m., then track and field events start at 12 p.m.
