Oestreich’s presentations about reappraisals very informative

To the Editor:

I recently attended a presentation by Matt Oestreich, Wood County auditor, concerning the residential/agricultural sexennial reappraisal for Wood County.

Oestreich stated that Perrysburg residents will see an average of 20-25% increase in property values beginning April 1, 2024. Agricultural values will increase from $2,000 an acre to $3,000 an acre, a 50% increase.

This reappraisal is estimated to cost a taxpayer $2,000 in additional property tax for a home valued currently at $300,000. The impact could be higher for township residents as they have a higher effective tax rate.

This estimate assumes no state legislative changes and no new levies. New levies would increase the tax burden even more.

I encourage everyone to attend presentations by Oestreich on property value increases. He does a great job explaining how the update works and the impact on Perrysburg city/Perrysburg township taxpayers.
