BG man jailed after violating community control

A Bowling Green man who failed to show for court supervision appointments will remain in jail on a cash bond.

John Reza, 37, was transported from the jail Monday to the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Molly Mack.

Reza had been indicted in November 2021 for burglary and violating a protection order.

On Oct. 15, 2021, he entered a home in the 600 block of Pasteur Avenue in violation of a TPO and was within 500 feet of the victims listed on the protection order.

He pleaded guilty in May 2022 to the amended charge of trespass in a habitation and was sentenced to three years of community control.

Since that time, he has violated the terms of community control numerous times.

On Dec. 2, 2022, he was scheduled for an appointment with adult probation but called and said he was ill. The appointment was rescheduled three more times in December, and he failed to show for all of them.

In January, he absconded from supervision and admitted to the offense in February. The case was continued to March, and Reza failed to appear for the court appearance.

A nationwide warrant was issued and Reza was arrested later that month.

On March 28, he submitted a urinalysis at the jail and results were positive for cocaine. He refused to sign the positive drug test admission statement.

Defense attorney Elizabeth Geer-Fry asked for a reasonable cash bond with a GPS ankle monitor.

Wood County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Lara Rump asked for a substantial cash bond. She said that Reza repeatedly posts bond, gets out of jail and then disobeys court orders.

Mack imposed a $50,000 bond, no 10%, and if posted a GPS ankle monitor will be attached.

Reza must undergo drug and alcohol screens.

His community control violation hearing was scheduled for April 17.
