Bobcat baseball downs Findlay, loses to Defiance

FINDLAY — On the Trojans’ diamond, Bowling Green scored five runs in the top of the fifth to defeat Findlay, 6-3, in non-league baseball Wednesday.

For BG, which outhit Findlay, 9-4, Brock Hastings had two triples in two at bats, and Alex Ross and Carter Earl hit doubles for the Bobcats.

Jack Brown started on the mound for BG, earning the win after striking out eight, walking three, allowing three hits through five innings and only one of three runs scored against him were earned.

Logan Neifer pitched two innings of relief, striking out three, walking nobody, and allowing one hit and no runs.

Also getting base hits for BG were Neifer, Brown, Braden Loomis, Nate Kress, and Rhett Winger. Ross, Loomis, Kress and Hastings had stolen bases.

On Thursday, Defiance 6-foot-1 senior right-handed pitcher Aidan Kiessling gave up no earned runs in seven innings as the Bulldogs defeated Bowling Green, 3-1, on the Bulldogs’ diamond Thursday.

Kiessling struck out five, walked two, and allowed three hits, throwing 108 pitches, including 75 strikes, in the complete-game victory.

After Defiance took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, BG scored in the top of the fourth to tie the game at one run apiece, but the Bulldogs added single runs in the bottom of the fourth and sixth. Defiance only out hit the Bobcats by a 4-3 count.

For the Bobcats, Braden Loomis, Brock Hastings and Nate Kress had base hits. Kress, who had a stolen base, batted in the Bobcats’ only run, Carter Earl was hit by a pitch and had a stolen base.

Will Brose pitched for BG, striking out two, walking two, and allowing four hits through six innings, but only one of three runs scored was earned thanks to three BG errors. Brose threw 81 pitches, 49 for strikes.

For Defiance, Kiessling, Jackson Walter, Bradyn Shaw, and Gavino Gomez had base hits, David Jiminez was hit by a pitch, and Shaw and Kiessling had stolen bases.

Eastwood downs Start, Northwood

PEMBERVILLE — Eastwood baseball improved to 3-0, downing Toledo Start, 14-2, on Wednesday and then defeating Northwood, 16-4, on Thursday. Eastwood hosted both games.

Against the Spartans, Jordan Pickerel went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Jackson Bauer went 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs, Isaac Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, and Caleb Recker went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Bauer got the win on the mound.

Eastwood scored six runs in the first, and then added four more in the second on their way to a five-inning mercy run. The Eagles outhit the Spartans 15-5 and took advantage of three Start errors.

The Eagles scored eight runs in the first inning and then added seven more in the third on their way to a 12-run victory over the Rangers, which was also called after five innings thanks to the mercy rule.

For Eastwood, Colton Woodward was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, Andrew Badenhop was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Case Boos was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Jarod Bonfiglio and Xander Greulich also had base hits for the Eagles. Tristan Schuerman had two stolen bases and Boos and Badenhop had one each. Gruelich also reached twice after getting hit by a pitch.

Badenhop got the win on the mound, striking out five, walking none, and allowing six hits and one earned run through three innings. Greulich closed, walking three and allowing two hits and two earned runs in two innings.

For the Rangers, Nolan Wagner was 2-for-2 and Gage Reed was 2-for-3, and Elias Pecina, A.J. Cruz, Brian Hollabaugh and Kyle Lewandowski had base hits. Smith had a stolen base and Cruz and Kaden Cluckey had sacrifices.

Smith took the loss on the mound and Lewandowski closed the final three innings for the Rangers.

Otsego baseball starts 3-0

TONTOGANY — Otsego baseball started the season 3-0, defeating Toledo Waite, 16-2, in five innings on Monday, defeated Northwood, 13-1 on Tuesday and then Lima Shawnee, 12-2, on Wednesday. All three games were hosted by the Knights.

In the win over Waite, Bodde Simon was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Mason Roe had two doubles in two at-bats with five RBIs, and Blake Steele was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Tucker Husberger was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Devin Silva had a double and triple in three at-bats. Danny Shanahan, Cohen Feehan, and Jason Jeremy had base hits for the Knights.

Three Otsego pitchers, Steele, Shanahan, and Simon combined to no-hit Waite. Steele struck out one and walked one in two innings, giving up an earned run, Shanahan struck out two without giving up a run in one inning, and Simon struck out six and walked two, giving up one earned run in two innings.

In the win over Northwood, Devin Silva got the win on the mound and O’Brien went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Also getting base hits were Mason Roe, Hunsberger, Feehan, Silva and Jeremy. Ethan Clair and Nolgan Wagner had base hits for the Rangers.

On the mound, Silva struck out four, walked three, and allowed two hits and one earned run and Shanahan pitched a scoreless inning in relief,

Elias Pecina started on the mound for Northwood (1-2), striking out one, walking six, and allowing one hit and three runs, but none were earned, in three innings. Wagner closed for the Rangers,

In the win over Shawnee, Feehan got the win, Tyler O’Brien was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Steele was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Shanahan was 2-for-3 with a triple and scored two runs.

The game was tied 2-2 after four innings, but Otsego scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth and added four more in the sixth.

Silva was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Simon, Feehan and Jeremy had base hits. Feehan pitched a complete game, striking out eight, walking two, allowing three hits and one earned run in six innings.

For Shawnee (1-2), three pitchers, Landon Gallegos, Tyson Bevilockway, and Zander Sutter combined to strike out eight, walk eight, and allow nine hits. Only seven of Otsego’s 12 runs were charged against Shawnee pitchers.

For the Indians, Carter Daily had a double and Sage Ebling and Derek Lyons had base hits.

Lake 10, Swanton 4

MILLBURY — Drew Tajblik was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs and Jay Blazevich was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI as Lake baseball defeated visiting Swanton, 10-4, Thursday.

The Flyers and Bulldogs were scoreless until Lake erupted for four innings in the third inning, and then tacked on one on the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth.

Ryan Wagner was the winning pitcher, striking out six, walking one, and allowing two hits and no earned runs through five innings. Wagner threw 63 pitches, including 42 strikes.

Caleb Tobias closed, striking out two, walking one, and allowing one hit and one earned run through two innings. Tobias threw 33 pitches, including 19 strikes.

At the plate Tobias was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Connor Eck, Gavin Kohhofer, and Myles Lowe had base hits for the Flyers. Wagner, Lowe and Blazevich had stolen bases.

Drew Smigelski, Ryan Oshea, and Drake Harris had base hits for Swanton and Lucas Bloom took the loss on the mound, striking out six, walking five, allowing nine hits, but only four of 10 runs were earned as the Bulldogs committed five errors.

Perrysburg 19, Clay 0

PERRYSBURG — Perrysburg junior pitcher Maison Gerrard and freshman Maddie Von Sacken combined to pitch a four-hit shutout in the Yellow Jacket’s 19-0 softball win over visiting Clay Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets pounded out 20 hits, including four home runs, and took advantage of four Clay errors in a game that ended after five innings because of the mercy rule.

Perrysburg sophomore Hayley Griggs was 4-for-4, including two solo home runs, junior Ella Leonard was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, and junior Jess Miller was 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Perrysburg sophomore Lily Hinkleman was 3-for-3, sophomore Riley Doria and senior Cassie Plummer doubled, and Von Sacken, senior Lexie Vaillant, sophomore Alyssa Bradford and junior Natalie Getchey had base hits.

Vaillant and junior Paige Riney had sacrifice flies and Miller, Bradford and Hinkleman had stolen bases for the Jackets.

Lake 8, Port Clinton 5

MILLBURY — Lake softball moved to 3-0 with an 8-5 non-league victory over visiting Port Clinton Thursday.

After PC scored three runs in the top of the first inning, Lake scored six in the bottom half and then both teams’ pitching settled in.

Sarah Patrick was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI, Kali Bedford was 2-for-4 with a double, and Ellie Rymers was 2-for-4 for the Flyers.

Addison Boehm had a double and three RBIs, and Jessie Materni, Alivia King, and Sophia Gruetter had base hits for Lake.

Gruetter also had a sacrifice and Diem Isbell, Bedford, Rymers and King had stolen bases.

Bedford got the complete game victory for Lake, striking out eight, walking one, giving up 11 hits and five earned runs. She threw 87 pitches, including 73 for strikes.

For PC, which is 0-4, Alliyah Wharton was 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBIs. Cam Schmitt was 2-for-3 and Marissa Frohne and Olivia Emerson were 2-for-4.

Makenzie Martinez and Maddie Wiechman had base hits for the Redskins, and Martinez had a sacrifice. Jandi Torres took the loss in the circle for PC.

BG tennis downs Fostoria, falls to Findlay

FOSTORIA — Bowling Green boys tennis swept host Fostoria, 5-0, in a non-league match Thursday.

In first singles, Aaron Hershberger defeated Jordan Ferguson 6-0, 6-1, in second singles Theo Bock defeated Eli Kiser 6-1, 6-0 and in third singles Paul Guo defeated Toni Hill-Hernandez 6-1, 6-0.

In first doubles, BG’s Jonas Kendrick and Aden Kendrick defeated Gulmano Torias and David Waltermyer, 6-1, 6-1, and in second doubles, Caleb Goff and Robby Seiffert defeated Lance Miller and Roberto Tovias 6-1, 6-2.

On Wednesday, the Bobcats were swept by Findlay, 5-0, on the Bobcats’ courts.

In first singles, Hershberger fell to Austin Asada, 6-0, 6-1, in second singles Bock lost to Arda Dastan 6-1, 6-2, and in third singles, Guo lost to Sam Swisher, 6-0, 6-0.

In first doubles, Jonas Kendrick and Goff fell to Aaron Miller and Luke Williams, 6-0, 6-2, and in second doubles, Aden Kendrick and Seiffert were defeated by Owen Metz and Mason Greenawalt, 6-1, 6-4.
