North Baltimore’s Bucher gets collegiate tennis win

TOLEDO — The Lourdes University womens tennis team concluded its eight-match homestand on Tuesday afternoon with a convincing 7-0 victory over Ursuline for the team’s fourth straight win inside Shadow Valley Tennis Club.

Jordan Bucher (North Baltimore) picked up her first singles win of the season with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number six.

The Gray Wolves started quickly, dropping just two games over the three doubles contests. Laura Ortiz (Bogota, Columbia/Gimnasio Los Pinos) and Olivia Schoppa (Gutersloh, Germany/Stadtisches Gymnasium Gutersloh) teamed for a 6-0 win at second doubles.

Cleo Moore (Atlanta, Ga./Riverwood International) and Mallory Schardt (Bedford, Mich.) were 6-1 victors at the top of the lineup while Winter Richburg (Toledo Rogers) and Vanessa Skouroukos (Toledo Waite) won by the same score at the third spot.

Lourdes completed the shutout winning all six singles contests in straight sets. Moore, playing at number one for the first time this season, notched a 6-0, 6-1 victory, the same score as Schardt defeated her opponent at second singles for her team-leading ninth singles win of the year.

Bella Chella (Lusaka, Zambia/Pretoria H.S. for Girls) and Schoppa did not drop a game on the day, each winning 6-0, 6-0 at third and fourth singles respectively. Ortiz cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at number five.

Lourdes (5-6) returns to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday morning as the Gray Wolves travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to face Concordia (Mich.). The first serve is set for 10 a.m. inside Liberty Athletic Club.
