NORTH BALTIMORE — North Baltimore Local Schools’ treasurer has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
The decision has been made after a thorough review of some financial irregularities that have been brought to administrator’s attention, according to Superintendent Ryan Delaney.
Steven Stewart has been the treasurer for the district since 2017.
“During the investigation, I will be working closely with local authorities to determine the extent of any irregularities and take appropriate action to rectify them,” Delaney said.
Federal investigators arrived at the board offices Wednesday morning.
In August 2021, the district’s board of education named Stewart as assistant superintendent and gave him a five-year contract for that, as well as his treasurer position. Those contracts expire July 31, 2027.
