TOLEDO — The Lourdes University baseball team began Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Monday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from 22nd-ranked Indiana Tech.

The Gray Wolves scored a 9-8 walk-off win in the opener before ending game two in eight innings due to the run rule in a 15-5 win at Mercy Field.

Harrison Jackson (Lake) and Ryan Jagodzinski (Rossford) delivered at the plate for the Gray Wolves in both wins.

“We executed really well today,” Lourdes coach Josh Bradford said . “We played the game the way we talk about in practice every day.

“The pitchers kept the games moving by pounding the strike zone with quality strikes and pitched most of the day in advantage counts. Offensively, we just kept the line moving. It took a little while to get going against their game one starter. We finished strong in the last three innings and carried that over into the second game.”

In its home opener, Lourdes fell behind 6-0 after the Warriors plated a pair of unearned runs as part of a three-run third and added three more behind a pair of home runs in the fourth.

Joey Oehlers (Bedford, Mich.) finally put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard with a two-out RBI single in the fourth.

Jackson delivered the big blow in game one, launching a two-out grand slam in the fifth to pull the Gray Wolves within one, 6-5.

Lourdes then took the lead in the sixth on a two-out, two-run double by Joel Suraganan (Pickerington, Ohio/Dunbarton).

Indiana Tech rebounded, taking advantage of two walks, a hit batter, and an error to score a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to pull back in front 8-7.

In the bottom of the inning, Nick DiGennaro (Oakville, Ont./St. Ignatius of Loyola) tied the game with a single up the middle, scoring Jackson before Cord Noble (Rockford, Mich.) followed with the walk-off single to score Hunter Mix (Swanton).

Jagodzinski had three hits in the leadoff spot for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves banged out 13 hits in the opener.

Braden Zuber (Wayne Trace) came out of the bullpen with a pair of scoreless innings in the fifth ad sixth before Austin Ford (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) picked up the win (1-1), despite allowing the two unearned runs in the seventh.

Lourdes started fast in game two, as Suraganan tripled as the second batter of the game to score Jagodzinski before Jackson added a sacrifice fly to put the Gray Wolves in front 2-0.

After the Warriors plated one in the third, Jackson hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Suraganan added a two-run double as part of a five-run inning to increase the lead to 7-1.

Leading 7-2 in the sixth, Lourdes sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring six times on just one hit, taking advantage of a pair of errors and four walks in the frame to increase the lead to 13-2.

Indiana Tech (11-5, 0-2 WHAC) scored two in the seventh and one in the eighth before Steve Haugh (Anthony Wayne) singled home a run in the eighth and Mix delivered the walk-off sacrifice fly for the 10-run rule.

Oehlers worked seven innings to earn the win (2-2) on the hill, allowing four runs on eight hits. Suraganan and Jackson each had three RBI games as Lourdes finished with 15 runs on just nine hits.
