Man seriously hurt after turnpike incident

MONCLOVA — A Cleveland Heights many was seriously injured after he was struck outside a vehicle Sunday morning on the Ohio Turnpike.

The Swanton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash which occurred on at milepost 52.9 in Monclova Township, Lucas County, at approximately 6:37 a.m.

A 2019 Subaru Impreza driven by Patrick Frederic Stephen McGuan, 21, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio was eastbound on the turnpike when it exited the left side of the roadway and struck a guardrail. The vehicle became disabled partially in the roadway.

A passenger, Rian Jordan Perham, 20, of Cleveland Heights, exited the vehicle. A 2023 Peterbilt commercial truck driven by Randy Allen White of Erie, Pennsylvania, was eastbound and struck the disabled vehicle, forcing it into Perham.

Perham was transported to University of Toledo Medical Center with critical injuries, according to the patrol.

Safety belts were in use, and alcohol/and or drugs are not believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Lucas County EMS, Ohio Turnpike Maintenance and Bubba’s Towing.
