Perrysburg’s Johnson leads Lourdes to season opening win

LAURINBURG, N.C. — Lourdes University mens lacrosse opened its season on Tuesday, defeating St. Andrews 8-6 at Knights Field.

Nick Johnson (Perrysburg) scored three times and added a pair of assists while Garrett Boersma (Norco, Calif./Norco) added a pair of goals.

Brock Meomartino (Cumberland, R.I.) put the Gray Wolves in front just 1:21 into the contest with his first collegiate goal.

After the Knights scored the next two tallies, Ben Reidy (Saskatoon, Sask./Bishop James Mahoney) and Boersma found the back of the cage to give Lourdes a 3-2 lead after one quarter.

Johnson then added his first tally of the game in the second to put the Gray Wolves in front 5-4 at halftime.

Caden Louthan (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs) made it a 5-3 lead in the third before the hosts scored the final two goals of the quarter to pull even heading into the final 15 minutes.

With the game tied at six midway through the fourth, Boersma tallied his second goal of the game with 8:02 to play before Johnson tallied his final goal 1:19 later and the Gray Wolf defense kept St. Andrews (1-7) off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

Jack Bichsel (Westerville North) made 12 saves in goal to earn the victory for the Gray Wolves.
