Perrysburg wins NLL wrestling championship

PERRYSBURG — Perrysburg, the defending Division I state runner-up, scored 282½ points to continue their hold on the Northern Lakes League wrestling championship Saturday.

Napoleon (193½) finished second, followed by Anthony Wayne (150), Bowling Green (106), Springfield (45), Sylvania Southview (36), Maumee (22) and Sylvania Northview (18).

Perrysburg won championships in every weight class except three — two were taken by AW and one by Napoleon.

Perrysburg champions were Ayden Dodd (106-pound weight class), Alex Denkins (113), Marcus Blaze (120), Lucas Chavez (126), Cole Evans (132), Diego Chavez (138), A.J. Parish (144), Wynton Denkins (150), Jake Wood (157), Joey Blaze (165), and Myles Takats (175).

Napoleon’s Henry Eggers won a 190-pound championship and AW champions were Blake Reed (215) and Tommy Ling (285).

Perrysburg’s Nick Hartzell was second at 190 and BG had four runner-up finishers — Cohen Lewis (106), Xavier Scott (132), Daniels Fields (144), and Dominick Butch (285).

In the 106 championship match, Dodd defeated Lewis by a 22-6 technical fall. At 113, Alex Denkins won a 5-1 decision over Napoleon’s Alex Gonzales.

At 120, Marcus Blaze pinned AW’s Zach Bergman in 2:30. At 126, Lucas Chavez won 6-4 against Napoleon’s Romeo Cordoba. Evans defeated Scott, 1-0, at 132.

At 138, Diego Chavez won by a 16-0 technical fall against Napoleon wrestler Austin Hopkins. At 144, Parish won a 6-4 decision over Fields.

At 150, Wynton Denkins got a 19-2 technical fall victory against Napoleon’s Jacob Aquilar. At 157, Wood won by a 17-2 technical fall against AW’s Kyle Wamer. At 165, Joey Blaze pinned Napoleon’s Devon Hull in 1:56.

At 175, Takats pinned Napoleon’s George Eggers in 1:42. At 190, Henry Eggers won an 11-1 major decision against Nick Hartzell. At 285, Ling pinned Burch in 2:45.

BG wrestler Andrew White was third at 165 and Perrysburg’s Nick Sawaya was third at 215. BG had three fourth-place finishers — Paul Archer (150), Cor’neal Lawrence (175) and Jackson Shafer (190).
