BG police issue scam warning

The Bowling Green Police Division has been made aware of several individuals receiving phone calls where the caller claims to be with the police and wants payment of fines for missing a court date.

The Bowling Green Police Division does not call individuals for payment of fines, according to a Thursday news release. Callers should not be provided with personal or financial information.

Food and folklore topic of Exchange Club

The BG Exchange Club speaker for Tuesday will be Lucy Long, director of the independent nonprofit Center for Food and Culture at Bowling Green State University.

Long holds a doctorate in folklore from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s in ethnomusiology from the University of Maryland. Shed teaches in Popular Culture, American Culture Studies, Ethnic Studies, Tourism and Food and Nutrition at BGSU.

Her presentation will introduce the field of food studies, an interdisciplinary discipline that approaches food and eating as connected to all aspects of life. Considered one of the founders of the field, Long tells of her own journey in the study of food and describes some of the many projects she has been involved in, from “inventing” culinary tourism in the 1990s to developing novel university classes to organizing exhibits and food festivals to producing documentary videos and curriculum materials.

Lucy’s publications include a wide range of topics — ethnic American food, regional foods in the US, comfort food, honey, sustainability and apples.

The Exchange Club meets at noon in the Bowling Green Country Club. Guests are welcome.
