Eastwood to honor 1,000 point scorers

PEMBERVILLE — Eastwood High School has a rich tradition in both boys and girls basketball and the 1,000 point scorers prove it.

In its history, Eastwood has 16 boys and girls players, including 11 girls and five boys, who have scored 1,000 points or more during their prep careers.

On Tuesday, Eastwood will recognize all 16 1,000 point scorers at halftime of the boys varsity basketball game versus Ottawa Hills.

There will be a reception for the 1,000 point scorers and the community at 6 p.m. in the Eagle Nest and all are welcome to attend. The athletic department anticipates halftime taking place around 7:45.

The five boys 1,000 point scorers, the amount of points they finished with and their year of graduation: Randy Gardner – 1,173 points (1977), Aaron Lawniczak – 1,635 points (1997), Clay Rolf – 1,038 points (2010), Jacob Schmeltz – 1,230 points (2014) and Jacob Meyer – 1,175 points (2022).

The first six girls 1,000 point scorers: Carol Bruning – 1,048 points (1978), Cathy Smithey – 1,268 points (1980), Teri Poggemeyer – 1,495 points (1984), Jodi Juergens – 1,127 points (1986), Stephany Dunmyer – 1,124 points (1996) and Kerri Wohltman – 1,121 points (1996)

The next five are Darcy Miesmer: 1,143 points (2000), Stacey Weiland – 1,014 points (2002), Kim Young – 1,194 points (2006), Jamie Schmeltz – 1,572 points (2020) and Aubrey Haas – 1,347 points (2022).
