Perrysburg, BG hockey fall

In a Northwest Hockey Conference Red Division game at Bowling Green State University’s Slater Arena Saturday, Northview defeated Perrysburg, 5-2.

Northview, 17-8-3 overall, is 8-1-1 and in first place in the Red Division. Perrysburg fell to 14-12-1 and 3-5.

The Yellow Jackets got two second period goals, both on power plays. Mackeane Hanley scored, assisted by Jay Baltzell and Cody Schneider with 4:08 remaining in the period.

Then with 1:59 on the clock, Schneider scored, assisted by Sam Bortz and Hanley, which made it a 3-2 game.

However, 34 seconds later the Wildcats got a goal from left wing Landon Elliott, assisted by center Mason Crandell and right wing Tryston Harrell to put Northview back up by two, and they added one third period goal.

Crandell scored the only first period goal, defenseman Riley Ames followed with a second period power play goal, assisted by Drake Symbolik and Benny Seals.

The Wildcats’ third goal was scored by Seals, assisted by Liam Diesing and Symbolik, and the fifth goal was scored by Symbolik on a dish from Seals.

Toledo St. John’s 3, Bowling Green 0

SYLVANIA — St. John’s only outshot Bowling Green, 29-28, but the Titans’ 6-foot-5, 250-pound goaltender, Zachary Lojewski, did not allow any Bobcat shots to find the net while earning a shutout.

Meanwhile, St. John’s forward Tyler Meader scored two second period goals, the first one assisted by forward Decian Loisel, and the second one assisted by forward Justy VonLehmden.

VonLehmden added a third period power play goal, assisted by defenseman Maxwell Perino and Loisel.

The game saw four penalties for eight minutes whistled on each team. St. John’s is 14-11-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the Red Division while BG fell to 12-15-4 and 1-8.
