Falcon swimmers place third of eight teams

MIAMI, Florida – The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team finished third out of eight teams in the Florida International University Sprint Invite Tuesday

BGSU competed in their first skins meet of the season. Freshman Emily McNicol was the highest finisher placing first in the 50 backstroke thanks to a finals time of 26.2.

The second highest finishers came from the divers with both Grace Ellis and Rayah Blood diving to a second-place finish. Ellis finished second in the one-meter dive with a score of 239.75 with Blood finishing second in the three-meter with a score of 276.2.

The Falcons also earned top five finishes in six other events. Riley McNichols swam to two fifth-place finishes in both the 50 and 100 butterfly with times of 26.49 and 59.59.

Breaststroke swimmer Taylor Harris swam to a fourth-place finish in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 30.40 and added a tenth-place finish in the 100 intermediate medley.

Livia Castro added another fourth-place finish for the Falcons in the 200 freestyle with a time of two minutes flat.

Elayna Krupp and Maddie Bond also swam to fourth-place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke with respective times of 24.75 and 1:02.7.

The Falcon divers will return to competition on January 13 for two days of dives at the Buffalo Diving Invite. Meanwhile, the swimmers will return home to the Cooper Pool on January 14 against Mid-American Conference foe Akron.
