Prep roundup: Winger’s hat trick propels Bobcats over Mules, 7-0

Bowling Green forward Rhett Winger scored a three-goal hat trick, leading the Bobcats to a 7-0 non-league win over Bedford (Mich.) Friday at Bowling Green State University’s Slater Family Arena.

The Bobcats improve to 4-4-1 on the season.

Winger scored on an assist from defenseman Caden Wisniewski with 3:26 remaining in the first period, putting the Bobcats up 2-0.

Winger got his second goal on a power play, assisted by forwards Ethan Helvoigt and Tanner Amos with 5:56 remaining in the second period, giving the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.

Winger’s final goal came early in the third period, assisted by Amos and defenseman Easton Schick, giving the Bobcats a 5-0 lead.

Amos finished with two goals and two assists, Wisniewski and Helvoigt both had one goal and three assists apiece, Schick had two assists, and forward Drake Joseph had an assist.

Toledo St. Francis 6, Perrysburg 3

SYLVANIA—Sam Bortz scored two goals and Jackson Baltzell added one goal, but Perrysburg lost a Northwest Hockey Conference Red Division game to St. Francis, 6-3, at Tam-O-Shanter Friday.

“(Sophomore) Collin Vore played well in net, but we couldn’t generate enough offense on the counter-attack,” Perrysburg coach Kevin Fisher said.

Cody Schneider, Ryan Butler, Alex Wilhelm, and Caden Seiple had assists for the Yellow Jackets.

Perrysburg is finished playing St. Francis in league games this year, splitting the two-game series after the Yellow Jackets defeated the Knights, defending state runners-up, in their first meeting, 5-4.

It is St. Francis’ first win of the season as they improve to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the NHC Red. Perrysburg falls to 2-4-1 and 1-1.

Eastwood 62, Otsego 49

TONTOGANY — Otsego opened a 16-9 first quarter lead, but Eastwood outscored the Knights 24-4 in the second quarter to begin pulling away.

Dayquan Oliver scored nine points in that second quarter, including hitting on two three-point goals, to lead the Eagles’ resurgence.

Brady Weaver led Eastwood with 18 points, Case Boos scored 13, Oliver scored 11, Kadyn Donnell scored six, and Andrew Badenhop scored four for the Eagles.

Noah Smith and Caleb Souder scored three points apiece and Tristan Schuerman and Andre Lewis added two points each for Eastwood.

It was both teams’ Northern Buckeye Conference opener. Eastwood is unbeaten in its first two games while Otsego falls to 1-1.

Owen Weaver had a game-high 22 points for the Knights, including a three-point goal and going 7-for-9 from the charity stripe.

Jack Simpson scored 13, Cohen Feehan scored six, Travis Merrill scored five, Trey Studer scored one point, and Drew Gase added one point for the Knights.

Sandusky St. Mary 48, Lakota 21

KANSAS — Sandusky St. Mary led Lakota by just four, 10-6, after one quarter, but the Panthers pulled away for a 48-21 Sandusky Bay Conference River Division boys basketball victory Friday.

It was the league opener for both teams, but St. Mary improves to 1-1 overall while Lakota is winless in three games.

For Lakota, Carson Hill scored eight points, Collin Zender and Mitchell Rosser scored four points each, Jacob Stuller scored three points, and Avery Shilling added two points.

For the Panthers, Braylon Harris had a game-high 12 points and Nathan Wehner added 11 points.

Sedrick Cook scored eight points, Charlie Kaftan scored seven points, and Lance Powell, Dylan Myers, Kyle West, Brock Gill and Dom Myers added two points each.

Pandora-Gilboa 53, North Baltimore 16

NORTH BALTIMORE — Wyatt Baltz scored 10 points for North Baltimore, but Pandora-Gilboa opened on a 14-2 run and defeated the Tigers 53-16 in the Blanchard Valley Conference boys basketball league opener Friday.

Owen Clark scored four points and Brody Walter scored two points for North Baltimore.

For P-G, Aiden Harris scored 17, Colin Harris scored 16, Derek Maag scored 13 and Zach Neuenchwander scored 10.

Chase Huffman scored two points and Aidan Morris added one point for P-G. The Rockets made seven three-point goals.

The Rockets are 3-0 overall while the Tigers are winless in three games.

Northwood 53, Toledo Emmanuel Christian 35

TOLEDO — Natalie Thompson scored 15 points, including two three-point goals, and Zoe Turner scored 11 as Northwood defeated Emmanuel Christian, 53-35, Friday in Toledo Area Athletic Conference girls basketball.

The Rangers led by just two, 11-9, after one quarter, but expanded that lead to double digits, 28-18, at halftime and never trailed in the second half.

Carissa Davise scored nine points, Regan Grant and Bree Bolden scored six apiece, and Lexi Haas, Eden Schoch, and E.B. Wauford added two points apiece.

For the Warriors, Paris Waites scored a game-high 21 points, including three treys, Sydney Miller scored eight, and Shelby Shepherd and Sydnie Schoch scored three apiece.
