WATERVILLE – A Liberty Center man was killed Tuesday when his sport utility vehicle reportedly rear-ended a truck on U.S. 24 near Ohio 64.

The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash in Waterville Township, Lucas County. The crash occurred at 4:07 p.m.

A 2006 Kenworth T800, driven by William Ogle, 46, Oregon, Ohio, was eastbound on Route 24. A 1998 Isuzu Trooper driven by Bryan Barker, 54, Liberty Center, was also eastbound. Barker failed to maintain an assured clear distance, and struck Ogle in the rear trailer, according to the patrol.

Barker was taken by ground ambulance to Toledo Hospital where he died.

Ogle did not sustain any injuries.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The patrol was assisted by Waterville Police Department, Waterville Township Police Department and Waterville Fire Department.

The crash remains under investigation.
