Lois Jean Howe

Lois Jean Howe passed away peacefully on Monday November 14, 2022. She was 89 years old. Lois was born in Jefferson, Ohio to the late Georgia (Teatsorth) and Elmer Stainfield.

She attended Jefferson Public Schools where she was 1st chair coranette in the high school band. She also was a post rider for the Harness Racing at the county fair. She later attended BGSU where she met her future husband John at a Fraternity dance. They were married in Jefferson in 1953. She then moved with John to Nebraska and worked at a local paper.

She gave birth to their only daughter Susan in 1963. In 1965, they moved back to Bowling Green. She worked at BGSU in the Popular Culture Department typing and proof reading books for faculty members.

Lois loved sports. She was on a women’s bowling team, played golf and watched many sports especially her Cleveland Indians. At BGSU, she was the first woman Falcon Club President.

Lois changed departments and started working at the BGSU Physical Plant where she was the official “Key Holder” to the University. The workers gave her the adoring name of “Lovey.” Her final job at the university was Office Associate Vice President for Administration. She retired after 33 years of working in 2003.

Lois is survived by her daughter Susan (Bill) Baker, her grandson Brice Baker. Nieces Laura (Joe) Alexander and Lee Cook and cousins Herb Hampson and David Hampson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Bob.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday November 18, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster St. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
