Falcons sweep MAC Player of Week awards

Bowling Green State University volleyball swept the Mid-American Conference East Player of the Week awards for the second time this season.

Mia Tyler was named Offensive Player of the Week, Yelianiz Torres was named Defensive Player of the Week and Jaden Walz and Hanna Laube were named the Setters of the Week.

This is the third time this season Torres has been named and the second for Walz. This is the first time this year for Laube and Tyler, but Laube has been named 10 times previously over her collegiate career.

The Falcons have had an Offensive Player of the Week five times this season with four different student-athletes named. As for the Defensive Award, BGSU has been the recipient six times with two different Falcons named.

Tyler was a leader on the BGSU attack over the weekend. Tyler began the weekend with 15 kills over five sets, coming just two shy of her career-high.

Tyler finished the match second on the team in kills and second in attack percentage as well with a mark of .414.

As for Saturday, Tyler again finished second on the team in kills, this time landing nine in three sets. She matched her career-high with an attack percentage of .429 in the match. In addition, she logged five block assists, tying for the team lead in the stat.

Torres had a strong weekend for the Falcons. Torres began the weekend by logging a season-high 34 digs over five sets, coming two shy of matching her career-high.

She added seven assists in the match as well. As for the second match of the weekend, Torres registered 19 digs in just three sets, averaging 6.33 per set. Her stat line was completed with four assists and one ace.

Walz and Laube led the Falcon attack to a .318 attack percentage this past weekend. In the first match of the week, both Walz and Laube came just shy of double-doubles.

Walz concluded with 25 assists and seven digs while Laube registered 28 assists and eight digs. The two also led an attack that finished with a .292 mark.

As for the second match of the weekend, Walz and Laube set up the most efficient BGSU attack this season, finishing with a .364 attack percentage.

The Falcons registered a percentage of at least .355 in each set. Individually, Walz narrowly missed a double-double once again, ending with 19 assists and seven digs. Laube added 14 assists and two digs.

The Falcons will return to the road next weekend, traveling to Buffalo, New York, for two matches against the Bulls.

Friday’s match is set for a 6 p.m. first serve before a 7 p.m. start on Saturday.
