BG man sentenced for sexual battery

A Bowling Green man is going to prison after pleading guilty to sexual battery.

Steven Glock, 67, appeared Tuesday in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger.

He had been indicted in March for two counts of rape, but after consulting with the victim and her family, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Brian Boos said a plea had been negotiated.

The rape charge, a first-degree felony, was amended to sexual battery, a second-degree felony.

The second rape count was dismissed.

Boos recommended a prison sentence of five years.

According to Boos, Bowling Green Police Division officers responded to the victim’s residence on May 22, 2021, which initiated the investigation.

The victim told investigators Glock had started touching her when she was 6 or 7 years old and watched porn with her while in bed. She said she also awoke once with Glock standing over her and her nightgown was pulled up, Boos said.

He said Glock made inconsistent statements to police during interviews and a polygraph test.

“This was not an easy decision. He has accepted responsibility to avoid trial,” said defense attorney Stevin Groth.

A victim’s advocate read a lengthy statement prepared by the victim, who was 9 years old at the time of the offense, which occurred between Feb. 25 and March 22, 2019.

Glock “ruined my life,” she wrote. “He was a manipulative man and a liar.”

She said he lied to her about her biological father, then started making things up about her mom. The only reason she believed him was because she was young and naïve, she said.

She started cutting herself at age 9, became sexually active at a young age, started vaping, taking pills and stealing.

“My life was going down the drain at 12,” she said.

She said she tried to overdose multiple times, ran away from home and was hospitalized.

Glock gave no comment when offered the chance to do so.

“I don’t know if there is anything more serious,” Reger said. “The impact on the victim will be for her lifetime.”

He said he could impose a sentence of eight years, but followed the negotiated agreement and sentenced Glock to five years in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

He said Glock could apply for early release after four years, but didn’t think it would be granted.

There is a mandatory five years post release control after Glock finishes his prison term.

Glock must register as a Tier III sex offender, requiring registration every 90 days for life.
