A Bowling Green author will sign copies of her children and Christian novels on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Novel Blends, 116 S. Main St.

Bettie Boswell is a long-time resident of Bowling Green and taught elementary music for Sylvania Schools before retiring. She started writing for publication about six years ago.

“Sidetracked” is a short chapter book for children in the upper elementary. It tells a fictionalized tale of two boys who worked for a train that actually existed in 1837, the Erie and Kalamazoo Railroad. They get into trouble and need to find a way to make things better. It is designed to enrich the reader’s vocabulary, has a hint of using early technology, and has a few challenging words. It is published by Teacher Created Materials.

“Skateboarding” is non-fiction and can be enjoyed by children of any elementary age. It has easy vocabulary and bright colored photos, exploring the sport of skateboarding. It is published by North Star/Apex.

She also has novels geared toward adults.

“On Cue” is a contemporary Christian romance about Ginny who has written a musical and is forced to work with director Scott. Along with an entertaining cast of characters and pets, they will need to work together in order to save the local museum with support gained by a successful production.

“Free to Love” is a split-time story about Ginny, before “On Cue,” and a love story she discovers about a couple, in a forced marriage, who end up traveling on the Underground Railroad to freedom.

Both stories feature an Underground Railroad depot, inspired by the Lathrop house in Sylvania.

There is a book in the works that will eventually complete this trilogy. The working title is “Hoping for Treasure.” The novels are published by Mt. Zion Ridge Press.

For her next children’s book, Boswell is working on a longer chapter book called “Dottie’s Dream Horse.” She will be the author and illustrator for this book. The text is edited and approved by the publisher. It will be published sometime in the spring by Elk Lake Publishers.

Boswell has always loved to read and create stories. Her writing interests extend from children’s to adult fiction and non-fiction. In addition to writing Christian romance novels, she has contributed to educational works, leveled readers, magazine articles and devotional and short story anthologies. She has two grown sons, three grandchildren. Her husband is a minister.
