Perrysburg earns share of NLL championship

PERRYSBURG — Perrysburg girls soccer will share the Northern Lakes League title with Sylvania Southview after earning a 3-0 shutout over Bowling Green Wednesday at Steinecker Stadium.

Scoring for the Yellow Jackets were seniors Adelle Francis and Michaela Christie and freshman Kinsley Jones.

Francis and juniors Jeremy Zeisloft and Avary Zeisloft had assists for the Yellow Jackets.

Perrysburg, the No. 4 ranked team in the Division I state coaches’ poll, finishes the regular season unbeaten at 12-0-5 and 5-0-2 in the NLL. Southview is 11-3-2 and 6-1. BG finishes the regular season 8-9 and 2-5.

The Yellow Jackets’ ties were against Avon Lake (2-2), Sylvania Northview (1-1), Anthony Wayne (0-0), Gahanna Lincoln (0-0) and Toledo St. Ursula (0-0).

Behind the play of goalkeeper Elizabeth Motter (60 saves) and her defense, the Yellow Jackets had 11 shutouts, gave up one goal five times and gave up two goals just once, outscoring opponents 63-7.

Adelle Francis led the team in scoring with 58 points on 26 goals and six assists, Emma Ogdahl had six goals and 10 assists, and Maci Maxwell had seven goals and five assists.

Avary Zeisloft had five goals and nine assists, Camille Francis had six goals and five assists, Grace Longendonk had three goals and two assists, and Jones had three goals and one assist.

Elena Neceski had seven assists, Ashlyn Brown had two goals and two assists, Christie had two goals and one assist and Caroline Thomas scored one goal with two assists.

Adyson Brown scored once, Ashlyn Haeft and Lauren Kepp had two assists apiece, and Mariel Caputo had one assist.

Perrysburg, the top ranked team in the D-I Sylvania district tournament, will host Sandusky (1-12-1) Wednesday at Steinecker Stadium at 6 p.m.

If the Yellow Jackets defeat the Blue Streaks, they will host the Findlay (4-7-5)-BG winner on Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. with that winner advancing to the Northview’s Cat Stadium for the district semifinals.

Jackets fifth at district tournament

LIMA — Perrysburg boys golf shot a 342 at Shawnee Country Club to finish tied for fifth with Findlay in the Division I district tournament.

Anthony Wayne shot 303 to win the tournament by 29 strokes. AW is the only team from the district qualifying for the state tournament.

Perrysburg senior Cody Schneider led the Yellow Jackets, shooting 45-37—82, and he was followed by seniors Jack Weisenburger (43-43—86) and Mackeane Hanley (45-41—86).

Rounding out Perrysburg golfers were senior Kyle Ross (41-47—88) and sophomore Josh Weisenburger (43-47—90).

Bowling Green freshman Brandon Schoenherr shot 43-41—84 to finish tied for 17th out of 60 golfers who qualified for the district tournament.

Three AW junior golfers, Logan Sutto (40-35), Myles Murphy (41-34) and Ian Briars (40-35) tied for medalist honors, shooting 75 along with Elida senior Carson Harmon (37-38—75).

Following AW in team scores were Toledo St. John’s (332), Lexington (333), Toledo St. Francis (334), Perrysburg and Findlay.

Rounding out team scores were Ashland (349), Sylvania Northview (352), Tiffin Columbian (374) and Elida (383).
