Falcons in 2nd after day one of Zips Classic

­AKRON, Ohio – The Bowling Green State swimming and diving team are in second place with a team score of 241, as they opened the 2022-23 season Friday at the Akron Zips Classic.

BGSU had second, third, and fourth place finishes in the 1-Meter Dive. Led by Grace Ellis with a 2nd place score of 229.40, the group earned a total of 68 points leading the way over all the competition.

The swimmers then continued the hot start in the 400 Medley Relay with two teams finishing in the top five in the event with times of 3:48.84 and 3:51.34. These weren’t the only Falcon relay teams to finish in the top five thanks to a fourth-place finish in the 800 Freestyle to end the night.

Individually, the Falcons’ best finish occurred in the 50 Freestyle with a fifth place finish by Riley McNichols with a time of 23.92. McNichols was soon followed by Falcon freshman Emily McNichol with a time of 23.94. Additionally, the Falcons added a top 10 finish in the 500 Freestyle with a strong performance by Livia Castro who swam to seventh place and a time of 5:04.81.
