Deal is 2nd in Ohio Junior Championship

OREGON — Perrysburg’s Mason Deal won the Ohio Junior Championship 16-18 Division, played Tuesday and Wednesday at Maumee Bay Golf Club.

Deal shot 6 under (71, 67), which was first place in his age division. Finley Bartlett, in the 15 and under division, shot 7 under (67, 70), to win the all-over title.

Deal is a 2022 Perrysburg High School graduate and will play golf for the University of Toledo.

Falcon men’s soccer adds 7 new players

Seven student-athletes will join the Bowling Green State University men’s soccer program this fall.

The list of newcomers includes Amer Dedic (Ulm, Germany), Jayden Lunsford (Dublin, Ohio), Hugo Marques (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Ethan Ogden (Dublin, Ohio), Ryan Sanborn (North Olmsted, Ohio), Andrew Shaffer (Galena, Ohio) and Trace Terry (Bellbrook, Ohio).

“This is a really exciting class,” said head coach Eric Nichols. “Each of these guys possesses the character, skill and athleticism to excel in college soccer and beyond. Ultimately, these guys chose Bowling Green because competing is in their DNA and they want to compete for championships.”

BGSU places 8 on Phil Steele Preseason All-MAC Squad

Phil Steele announced his preseason All-MAC squad and eight Falcons found themselves across the four teams, highlighted by four-first team members. Only 2021 MAC champion NIU had more first-team members with five.

Linebacker Darren Anders, safety Jordan Anderson, punt returner Jhaylin Embery and tight end Christian Sims all graced were named to the first team. Defensive lineman Karl Brooks was named to the second team, while cornerback Davon Ferguson and defensive lineman Walter Haire were named to the third team. Rounding out the group was offensive tackle Alex Wollschlaeger who was named to the fourth team.

This is the second preseason All-MAC team to be released. Earlier this month Athlon Sports’ preseason team was released with 11 Falcons represented. Anders, Anderson, Brooks, Ferguson and Sims were named to the first team. Haire was named to the second team. Tyrone Broden and Jakari Robinson were named to the third team. Terion Stewart, Brock Horne and Embery were named to the fourth team.

Bowling Green, who returns 50 letterwinners and 18 starters, opens the 2022 season against UCLA on Sept. 3 at the Rose Bowl. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network.
