Firefighters work on the scene of an accident involving a Chevy pickup truck and a semi truck Friday, June 20, 2014, at the intersection of US-6 and Sand Ridge Road south of Bowling Green. According to the Wood County Sheriff’s office, a Friday night crash on U.S. Route 6 at Sand Ridge Road caused the death of Jared Zernhel, 39, of Custar. The Sheriff’s office is investigating the crash which was reported at 10:19 p.m. involving a pickup truck and semi-tractor trailer. Zernhel was driving the pickup south on Sand Ridge Road and failed to stop at the posted sign at Route 6. His truck was struck by the westbound semi and was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger was transported to the Wood County Hospital. Her name has not been released. The driver of the semi was not injured.
