TOLEDO — Toledo had the answer every time the Bowling Green men’s basketball team got close in the second
half Wednesday night at Savage Arena.
The Rockets, helped by a 29-of-35 effort from the free-throw line, led from start to finish to down the
Falcons, 83-76. PHOTO GALLERY

‘‘It just came down to a rebound or a stop that we needed, but somehow we didn’t get it; that was a big
factor,’’ BG’s Jehvon Clarke said. ‘‘Toledo is a good team, and every opportunity you have, you have to
capitalize, whether it’s getting a rebound or making a free throw, or whatever.
‘‘Somehow we didn’t get big plays down the stretch.’’
Toledo started the game with an 11-0 run, and led by as many as 16 in the first half. The Falcons closed
the half on an 8-2 run to trail 41-32 at the break.
‘‘Anytime you start off sluggish in the first few minutes of the game, and you are playing catchup, you
exert a lot of energy,’’ Clarke said. ‘‘It’s just the effort and who wants to win more.
‘‘You have got to have that self-will to fight and preserve, and things like that to get a win.
Unfortunately we didn’t get it.’’
In the second half, the Falcons played well offensively and were able to make things interesting.
The Falcons were within one, 55-54, with 11:30 left in the game after a layup from Clarke off a steal and
assist from Anthony Henderson.
On Toledo’s next possession, Matt Smith knocked down a 3-pointer to keep the Falcons at bay.
‘‘We know we have great playmakers, and we just made plays when we needed them,’’ UT’s Justin Drummond
said.
Bowling Green hung around and got to within three, 68-65, on Clarke’s 3-pointer with 5:46 remaining.
Just 21 seconds later Drummond hit a 3-pointer to push UT’s lead back to six points.
Henderson’s jumper cut UT’s lead to 71-69 with 3:16 remaining, but Drummond responded 18 seconds later
with a basket.
The Rockets then made 10-of-12 free throws to secure the win.
Bowling Green was able to put 44 points on the board in the second half, but could never take the lead.

‘‘Going into the game we knew we had to play on our terms … When you play against Toledo, you know you
can’t play tag with them; you have to be able to get stops,’’ Orr said.
Free throws were a major difference in the game. Bowling Green was 7-of-8 from the free-throw line as
Toledo was called for 11 fouls.
The Falcons were forced to foul in the late going and were called for 24 fouls in the game as UT was
20-of-23 from the line in the second half.
‘‘We knew they are a good free-throw shooting team,’’ Orr said.
‘‘We have a lot of athletic guards and we just keep attacking the rim and getting the shot that we want,’
Drummond said.
Clarke and Henderson each had 23 points for the Falcons while Spencer Parker contributed 16 points.
Drummond scored 22 points for Toledo.
