Bowling Green’s boys had no answers for Southview Tuesday night.
The Cougars were in control from the start, handing BG a 71-53 loss in a Northern Lakes League game.
Southview took a 17-11 lead after one quarter and expanded the margin to 39-26 at the half and 58-38
after three quarters. PHOTO

Jeremiah Roberts scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures for the Cougars, 8-5 overall and
4-4 in the league.
Justin Schaffer added 15, Nate Eggleston chipped in with 11 and J.J. Pinckney had 10 for the Cougars.
The Bobcats were only 21-of-59 from the field and turned the ball over 17 times.
BG shot only seven free throws — two in the first quarter, and the other five in the final period when
the outcome already had been decided.
LaMontá Stone had 17 points for BG (2-12, 1-7) and Jackson Stewart had 10.
“We played hard defensively, but we were careless with the ball and that hurt us,” BG coach Mark
Malinowski said.
The Cougars, who scored inside and outside, finished 26-of-53 from the field and 15-of-22 from the
free-throw line. They had 15 turnovers, but only five over the middle two quarters.
Roberts, a 6-foot-4 junior, scored all of his points around the lane during the first three quarters, and
Schaffer made four 3-pointers in the game.
The Bobcats have only three players who are 6-foot or taller.
“Bowling Green’s not real big,” Southview coach Bruce Smith said. “We thought we had an advantage
size-wise and that we could get some baskets inside. When you score inside, that makes the perimeter
shot that much more effective.”
Because BG doesn’t have much size, its forced to score from the perimeter.
The Bobcats also are without 5-10 sophomore guard Trent Hinton with a hand injury.
“Their athleticism, their length and their quickness gave us fits,” Malinowski said.
“We’re a little more athletic than they are and we were able to keep them away from the basket,” Smith
said.
Stone had a quiet night when it mattered, scoring just eight points in the first half.
The 5-foot-7 guard made his first two shots, both 3-pointers, 55 seconds apart, to give BG a 6-3 lead
with 5:37 remaining in the first quarter.
But Stone didn’t score again until 3:28 remained in the first half when he scored from the paint.
Southview matched Pinckney and Eggleston against Stone during the game.
The 6-foot-3 Pinckney has committed to play football at the University of Cincinnati where he will be a
wide receiver. Eggleston is a 6-foot junior.
“Those two gave Stone different looks — Pinckney has good length and Eggleston is physical,” Smith said.
“You never want to be in a close game against an opponent with a player like Stone who can beat you
single-handedly. Fortunately, we didn’t give him that opportunity.”
The Cougars broke a three-game winning losing streak. They lost to Napoleon, Northview and Scott in the
last week after posting a 45-42 win over league-leading Perrysburg Jan. 10
“Winning was the biggest thing tonight,” Smith said. “We’ve been hard hit by injuries that cost us three
wins in the last week.”
The Cougars remain without standout Nate Hall and senior Matt Morrison is playing at 50 percent, Smith
said.
Nine different Cougars scored in the game.
“To get a contribution from all of the kids was rewarding,’ Smith said. “It was a good team win.”
BG’s junior varsity lost, 51-35. The Bobcats’ Jacob Leader had 11 points.
