While Bowling Green made a valiant try in the second half, the Falcons could not recover from another
slow start.

‘‘It’s
definitely frustrating, especially when you know you can win the game,’’ said BG’s Richaun Holmes, who
finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks. ‘‘We know in the back of our minds
that we have to play every game from start to finish, like we (did) in the second half.’’
After trailing 34-21 at the half, the Falcons were able to pull to within 44-43 with 10:43 left in the
game. And BG was within 53-51 with 4:56 left to play.
However, Bowling Green could never get over the hump.
‘‘We are our own worst enemy,’’ BG head coach Louis Orr said. ‘‘The first half put us in a hole.’’
In the final minute of the game, the Falcons trailed 60-56, but could not get a key basket when it was
needed.
‘‘We went away from a few things. We took a couple of shots that I know we could have gotten better
shots,’’ Orr said. ‘‘When you are playing from behind you need everything to go right.’’
IPFW was only 5-of-10 from the free throw line in the final 40.3 seconds, but BG’s only points in that
span came on two free throws from Spencer Parker and Parker’s layup in the final seconds.
‘‘We didn’t execute well down the stretch,’’ Holmes said. ‘‘We had a couple of turnovers. I know I had
one. That just can’t happen.’’
In the first half BG shot just 22 percent from the field (6-of-27), including 1-of-9 (11.1 percent) on
3-pointers. IPFW closed the first half on a 23-13 run.
‘‘In the first half we got down, maybe more because of our offense than our defense,’’ Orr said. ‘‘We had
some good looks, (but) we didn’t finish great around the basket at times.’’
‘‘The shots weren’t going down for us,’’ Holmes said. ‘‘We have been starting slow in the first half in
the last few games. We have got to find a way to turn it up.
‘‘We just had too big of a hole to dig ourselves out of,’’ he added.
The Falcons played with more energy in the second half, and aggressively attacked the basket. In the
final 20 minutes, BG was 16-of-28 from the field (57.1 percent).
Holmes, Parker and Jehvon Clarke combined for 31 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists in the second
half. Clarke finished the game with 16 points, and Parker scored 15.
‘‘Even though we did start slow in the first half, as long as there is still time on the clock, we’ve got
time to make up for it,’’ Holmes said. ‘‘We just tried to push, and keep pushing, keep pushing, until
the final buzzer.
‘‘Transition scoring has been good for us all year. We have to keep pushing the ball at every opportunity
to give ourselves the best chance to score.’’
Orr said the game plan was to attack the basket.
‘‘We thought we could be successful getting to the basket,’’ Orr said. ‘‘We are not a team that can just
settle for jump shots.
‘‘In the second half our aggressiveness picked up with our defense, and our pressure,’’ he added.
Turnovers hurt the Falcons’ offensive rhythm during the entire game, Orr said. BG had 19 turnovers in the
game.
NOTES: BG is 6-7, having lost two straight … IPFW improved to 11-5 with its first-ever road win over a
Mid-American Conference team … IPFW is 5-22 all-time against MAC teams, with three of the wins coming
against Bowling Green … BG’s Cameron Black finished with 11 rebounds and blocked two shots, and he is
