Otsego High School
Brandon Avers was named the October Student of the Month at Otsego High School.
Also honored were junior Brennan Schall, sophomore Colton Battin and freshman Greysen Tolles.
Avers is treasurer of National Honor Society and is team captain of both the track team and cross country
team. He ranks 11th in his class of 114 students.
He served as student council representative as a sophomore and junior and has earned all-Ohio, state and
league honors for track and cross country.
He also is in FFA and 4-H.
He plans to attend Kent State University to major in finance while competing for the cross country and
track teams.
He’s the son of Rob and Michelle Avers, Bowling Green.
Schall participates in track, football and choir. He also is a flag football coach
Schall, of Bowling Green, is the son of Danielle Heinze and Paxton Dewyer.
Battin participates in football, baseball and FFA. He also is a member of Beaver Creek Boosters 4-H club
and the Junior Fair Board.
He is the son of Bob and Joan Battin, Weston.
Tolles is in FFA and the Otsego outdoor club and is vice president of novice parliamentary procedure.
He is a three-year member of 4-H.
His parents are Robert and Kimberelie Tolles, Weston.
Eastwood High School
Eastwood High School senior Zachary Jacoby has been named the November Student of the Month
He is the son of Mary and Shawn Jacoby, and is an honor roll student as he maintains a 4.0 gpa.
In school, he is the treasurer of National Honor Society and a member of People Inc., while participating
on the basketball and track and field teams.
In the community he is involved with the Vacation Bible School and Lutheran Youth Organization at
Bethlehem Lutheran Church, while serving as a cabin leader at Camp Echoing Hills for those with special
needs.
After graduation, Jacoby plans on continuing his education at Bowling Green State University, where he
would like to study Pre-Optometry or Pre-Med to prepare for a career as an optometrist or physician’s
assistant.  
Bowling Green High School
Bowling Green Exchange Club and Bowling Green High School have named Shawn Layden as its September
Student of the Month, and Susan Johnson as October Student of the Month.
Both are seniors at BGHS.
Layden’s school awards include membership in National Honor Society, scholar athlete in cross country,
and an excellent rating in the State Science Fair. He is a member of the marching band and earned an
excellent rating in the OMEA solo and ensemble contest. He also participates in jazz band and was a
state qualifier with the quiz bowl team.
He is a library volunteer and has a lawn care business.
Layden is ranked first in his class of 253 students.
He is undecided on a college, but plans to major in chemical engineering.
He is the son of Andrew and Kim Layden.
Johnson is ranked second in the senior class.
She is a member of National Honor Society, attended as a junior the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Forum
and earned advanced and superior ratings at the State Science Fair.
She also is a member of Spanish National Honor Society, the Ohio Energy Project, FFA, Model UN and the
cross country team. She was selected for the 2014 Rose Court and is vice president of the orchestra.
Johnson participated in the Bowling Green Leadership program.
She is active in 4-H and operates a lawn care business.
She plan to attend the U.S. Naval Academy or U.S. Air Force Academy to study engineering. Her goal is to
become a military pilot and ultimately an astronaut.
She is the daughter of Paul and Laura Johnson.
